FINAL LEAGUE MATCH RESULT 19/6/2016 CAWDOR POND

The final league match took place today at Cawdor pond. Going into the final match there was only two anglers who could win the league, It was Steve Allcock who went into todays match with a 1 point advantage over Asa Cooper. Steve knowing that if he could just beat Asa or match his result he would take top spot.

The draw would have a big influence in which way the final league standings would go and it was Asa Cooper who had the luck drawing hot Peg 20, but Steve also drew well on Peg1 in the same section has Asa. The little pond was also expected to fish well and Lee Ward and Malcolm Bent drew well on Pegs 22/23.

The match turned out to be a out and out Carp match and it was Asa Cooper who came out the winner with a superb weight of 34-15. Asa landed 5 Carp for 22lb, but also backed it up with a fine net of silver fish. Not only did Asa win the match he also claimed the golden Peg money, won the match, won the league for a second consecutive year. Although Asa and Steve both finished on 27 points it was Asa that took the honours on combined weight countback.

LEAGUE MATCH 5 TANSLEY POND SUNDAY 5TH JUNE

LEAGUE MATCH 5 TANSLEY POND SUNDAY 5TH JUNE

Match 5 saw a return to Tansley pond and after the first league match no one was to excited about it! But on a nice sunny warm day there was a few more fish caught and few more bites to be had.

5-1 of Roach & Perch
Asa Cooper won the match  with a net of small fish mainly roach and perch. Asa fished several lines to catch over 100 fish to weigh 5-1 and just edge out Mark Gregory by 1 ounce who weighed 5-0 from Peg 14. Mark caught well early on and had a few bonus Roach and Skimmers until bites dried up, but it was still enough to take second place.
Asa Cooper try's to convince he's only got 3lb

Match was back on Cawdor pond, with a improvement weather wise everybody expecting to catch some fish. Sadly it turned out to be a big fish match and the Roach and Skimmers didn't show in any numbers.

Mark wain was happy with his draw on Peg 15 and did exactly what he said he was going to do and won the match with a fine net of Carp. Mark weighed 22-14 consisting of 5 Carp and few Skimmers. Mark attacked from the start and fed heavy expecting to catch big fish and he did.

Pete Hunt came a close second from Peg 1. Pete also caught Carp and skimmers on the pellet on both pole and feeder.

LEAGUE MATCH 3 EREWASH CANAL SUNDAY 15TH MAY

LEAGUE MATCH 3 EREWASH CANAL SUNDAY 15TH MAY

Match 3 was fished on the canal at Langley Mill, sadly it was a poor turnout and numbers were low. The weather was set fair but the water was very clear and the canal was not expected to fish to well. But Paul Allcock didn't let the tough conditions bother him and he produced a nice net of fish to take top spot with a weight of 4-11 from Peg 39. Paul caught mainly Perch with a chopped worm approach but also caught some nice silver fish to back his bonus Perch up.

In second place was Mark Gregory who weighed 3-11 from Peg 22, Mark mainly caught Perch on the worm and had 2 Perch over the 1LB+ mark.

In third place was John Barfoot who weighed 3-7 from Peg 41, John had mixed net of Roach, skimmers and Perch.

Memories of Phil Parsons 18/9/1931 - 24/5/2016 Member of Matlock Angling Club for 30+ years

Memories of Phil Parsons 18/9/1931 - 24/5/2016

We have received sad news that a long time member Phil Parsons passed away on the 24th May 2016. Phil aged 85 suffered from Parkinsons disease but through it all he carried on fishing until he could not physically manage any more. An active member at Matlock and a ever present on the matches up until 2004, Phils enthusiasm for fishing was infectious, rain, snow, hail and frost made no difference to Phil he would still turn out to fish!

Angling is a art form and Phil was one who mastered it better than most. Just to mention a few people who have benefitted from Phil's experience John Marsh, Brian Marsh, Ron Trevis, Herbert Colls, Frank Smith, Ken Wood, Steve England, Geoff Brown, Ricky Wild and Asa Cooper.

I have dug out 3 match results from the archives to share with everyone
